Researchers and entrepreneurs with decades of working in artificial intelligence (AI) are trying to help people better understand its elusive nature. They're working to reduce some of the confusion and misconceptions around AI and show how it's being used in robotics for industrial applications. "I think the biggest misconception is how far along it is," said Rodney Brooks, chairman and CTO of Rethink Robotics. "We've been working on AI, calling it AI since 1956 (when the father of AI, John McCarthy, coined the term "artificial intelligence"), so roughly 62 years. But it's much more complicated than physics, and physics took a very long time. I think we're still in the infancy of AI."

[文献速递]操作数据文件,国际空间站运营背后的驱动力

标题:Operations Data Files, driving force behind International Space Station operations

简介Almost all tasks performed by the astronauts on-board the International Space Station (ISS) and by ground controllers in Mission Control Centre, from operation and maintenance of station systems to the execution of scientific experiments or high risk visiting vehicles docking manoeuvres, would not be possible without Operations Data Files (ODF). ODFs are the User Manuals of the Space Station and have multiple faces, going from traditional step-by-step procedures, scripts, cue cards, over displays, to software which guides the crew through the execution of certain tasks. Those key operational documents are standardized as they are used on-board the Space Station by an international crew constantly changing every 3 months. Furthermore this harmonization effort is paramount for consistency as the crew moves from one element to another in a matter of seconds, and from one activity to another. On ground, a significant large group of experts from all International Partners drafts, prepares reviews and approves on a daily basis all Operations Data Files, ensuring their timely availability on-board the ISS for all activities. Unavailability of these operational documents will halt the conduct of experiments or cancel milestone events. This paper will give an insight in the ground preparation work for the ODFs (with a focus on ESA ODF processes) and will present an overview on ODF formats and their usage within the ISS environment today and show how vital they are. Furthermore the focus will be on the recently implemented ODF features, which significantly ease the use of this documentation and improve the efficiency of the astronauts performing the tasks. Examples are short video demonstrations, interactive 3D animations, Execute Tailored Procedures (XTP-versions), tablet products, etc.

[技术文章]空间站概念层面建模与优化的初步集成分析

标题:Preliminary integrated analysis for modeling and optimizing space stations at conceptual level

简介Key disciplines at the conceptual design stage for space station are introduced, which are configuration, dynamics and control, and power disciplines. The main variables and parameters in the three disciplines are presented, and the relevant disciplinary analysis models are developed. The integrated analysis framework of the space station is obtained afterward. Then, the multidisciplinary optimization for solar array configuration is taken as an example of the space station optimization based on the integrated analysis model. The optimization problem is modeled with the use of the collaborative optimization (CO). The system-level and three disciplinary optimization models are introduced. In the optimization process, MATLAB is utilized for simulation, and the adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) is applied as the basic optimization algorithm. It is shown that the optimization problem is effectively solved with the use of the CO and AGA. Moreover, using the integrated analysis framework, the parameters of space station are successfully calculated with high computational efficiency at the conceptual design stage.

标题:Experimental study of electro-hydraulic actuator with payload for precision motion control

简介Offline iterative control technique in a hydraulic testing sector is primarily used to improve the tracking control performance despite nonlinearity caused by a testing subject or hydraulic actuators. However, it is hard to find previous researches analyzing about the effect of various load types to the offline iterative control technique. The present paper demonstrated the effect of three load types to the offline iterative control technique by using experimental data. For this, the three load types in test conditions were defined. Then transfer functions of an actuating system and tracking control performance of the offline iterative control technique were experimentally examined. The experimental results showed that load types affected transfer functions of an actuating system, and frequency response function's distortion, caused by nonlinearity, degraded the tracking performance of the offline iterative control technique.

标题:Characterization of the longitudinal bow during flexible roll forming of steel sheets

简介:Flexible roll forming is an advanced sheet metal forming process that allows for the production of variable cross-section profiles. Longitudinal bow is one of the major shape defects found in roll-formed products. To characterize the degree of longitudinal bow during flexible roll forming, experiments were conducted on three different blank shapes: trapezoid, convex and concave. Symmetric U-sections with variable cross-sections were roll formed using the three sheet materials with different strengths from each blank shape. The effects of process variables on the longitudinal strain and longitudinal bow were analyzed both experimentally and by using finite element simulations based on ABAQUS-Implicit 6.14. The results show that the transversal nonuniformity of the longitudinal strain is one of the fundamental causes of longitudinal bow in roll-formed products. The bow height as a function of blank shape increases in the order of concave, trapezoid, and convex. The bow characteristics on the basis of blank shapes and material parameters provides a better understanding of the non-uniform longitudinal strain and bow height during flexible roll forming with high reliability. Furthermore, to reduce the longitudinal bowing, leveling roll is introduced. The effect of leveling roll on longitudinal bowing was investigated experimentally. The results show that longitudinal bowing was reduced with the use of three blank shapes when leveling roll was applied to a flexible roll forming process.

标题:Research on flexible asymmetric rolling process for three-dimensional surface parts

简介:To realize rapid fabrication of three-dimensional surface parts, flexible asymmetric rolling process for continuously forming surface parts is developed. This process employs an auxiliary roll, a pair of upper and lowers bendable rolls as forming tools. By adjusting the height of the auxiliary roll, the sheet metal is inclined before non-uniform rolling, which is conducive to longitudinal bending deformation of the sheet metal after rolling. Meanwhile, the non-uniform thickness reduction of the sheet metal caused by the non-uniform roll gap between the upper and lower rolls makes itself bend in the transverse and longitudinal directions. Owing to small bending behavior of the bendable roll in the experiment, the forming precisions of formed parts are not ideal by the 3D rolling process without the auxiliary roll. In this paper, the flexible asymmetric rolling process is introduced to improve the 3D rolling process for surface parts with well forming precisions. An auxiliary roll is employed in the flexible asymmetric rolling process except a pair of upper and lower rolls. The formation mechanism of the curved surface is set forth, and the parametric equations of the formed surface in flexible asymmetric rolling process are derived. Typically simulations and experiments for forming spherical and saddle surfaces have been performed. The dimensional accuracies of the forming parts are measured, and the differences of the 3D rolling and flexible asymmetric rolling processes are investigated though numerical simulations. The forming results with good dimensional accuracies show that the flexible asymmetric rolling process is feasible for manufacturing three-dimensional surface parts with a broader range.

简介:This paper is about an experiment for performing engines diagnostic using wireless sensing Internet of Thing (IoT). The study is to overcome problem of current standard On Board Diagnosis (OBD-II) data acquisition method that only can be perform in offline or wired method. From this paper it show a method to determined how the data from engines can be collected, make the data can be easily understand by human and sending data over the wireless internet connection via platform of IOT. This study is separate into three stages that is CAN-bus data collection, CAN data conversion and send data to cloud storage. Every stage is experimented with a two different method and consist five data parameter that is Revolution per Minute (RPM), Manifold Air Pressure (MAP), load-fuel, barometric pressure and engine temperature. The experiment use Arduino Uno as microcontroller, CAN-bus converter and ESP8266 wifi board as transfer medium for data to internet.

标题:Transformer Fault Condition Prognosis Using Vibration Signals Over Cloud Environment

简介:In this study, we first discuss in detail an analytical approach to the transformer vibration modelling. Nevertheless, precise interpretation of transformer vibration signal through analytical models becomes unrealistic as higher harmonics are mixed with fundamental harmonics in vibration spectra. Therefore, as the next step, we aim to support the Industry 4.0 concept by utilizing the state-of-the-art machine learning and signal processing techniques to develop prognosis models of transformer operating condition based on vibration signals. Transformer turn-to-turn insulation deterioration and short circuit analysis as one the most important concerns in transformer operation is practically emulated and examined. Along with transformer short-circuit study, transformer over and under excitations are also studied and evaluated. Our constructed predictive models are able to detect transformer short-circuit fault in early stages using vibration signals before transformer catastrophic failure. Real-time information is transferred to the cloud system and results become accessible over any portable device.
