标题:The Role of Interoperability in The Fourth Industrial Revolution Era

简介:In the manufacturing domain, interoperability represents a characteristic of a manufacturing system in which its components are capable of exchanging information with one another, using the information that has been exchanged. Even though the discussion about interoperability issues can trace back to the 1970s, system interoperability is still the "elephant in the room". Additionally, in the past few years, research topics related to the fourth industrial revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, have been gradually accepted and promoted by governments and organizations all around the world. A research question then arises: what is the role of interoperability in the fourth industrial revolution era? The aim of this paper is to provide a scientific and evidence-based answer to this question. From an academic perspective, a systematic literature review was carried out to discover the main concepts related to interoperability in an Industry 4.0 context. From an industrial perspective, a questionnaire survey was developed to guide the application of a multi-criteria decision analysis method, the Analytic Hierarchy Process, used to analyze and make explicit the relationships of the previously discovered concepts. Results of this study can be used as a basis for future interoperability research in this new industrial revolution wave.

简介:The Fourth Industrial Revolution is coming, and it is changing almost all aspects of human life, including the culture of quality and quality management (QM) in industry. This paper first examines the essence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its impact on our lives. Next, new concepts of quality as well as QM are discussed as follows. First, we analyse the multiway flow of QM in the stages of plan - design - production - marketing - sales, and data-oriented multiway interactions for creating new value and quality are discussed. Second, four distinctive approaches are introduced for implementing the multiway flow in real-world applications. The four approaches, which utilise Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and more, are composite dimension, team creativity, total inspection, and new valuation. Finally, we argue for the necessity of combining quality experts with data scientists to prepare well for the coming Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Therefore, there is an effort to give the concept of optimum design of the robot by considering the different design parameters which makes it more efficient and reliable to use in the manufacturing industry. Nowadays, for optimization the modeling and simulation tools are the widely used to facilitate and accelerate the design processes such as dynamic simulation, structural analysis, optimization in order get an industrial robot design and optimization framework. In this research, focus is to investigate the feasibility of integrating tools from different domains such as Parametric CAD modeling and FEA, which gives a concept to the industrialist how to get an optimum arm design to increase their production rate etc. Inverse kinematic analysis which is done using Robo-Analyzer which has the ability to give optimum position and orientation of desired robotic arm, by considering the IKA, meta modeling is done to get an optimum design of arm using Solid works after that structural analysis of different designs are done using Ansys simulation tool, an optimum design of arm is recommended after evaluating the results.

标题:An outlook on future assembly systems introducing robotic mobile dual arm workers

简介:This paper investigates the effect of introducing mobile dual arm coworkers in manual assembly systems. These robot workers can navigate autonomously and in a safe way across the shopfloor to undertake multiple operations (handling, screwing etc.). In addition, they can work in collaboration with human operators acting as assistants to them. This hybrid production paradigm can increase the reconfigurability of the system while maintaining competitive production rates. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed and evaluated on a case study from the automotive industry. The findings show that a significant increase in the resource utilization can be achieved.

This paper proposes a comprehensive methodology to assess the suitability of vehicle body components for the application of hybrid material systems by analysing superimposed numerical crash simulation data of conventional steel bodies-in-white. The loading anisotropy and the global deformation are presented as two suitability criteria including an evaluation methodology to eventually select suitable hybrid material systems in the transition from conventional to enhanced material employment and vehicle structure design. Additionally, the methodology provides novel insights into the global structural loading by simultaneously considering multiple crash load cases.

This total, as reported by companies participating in the Cutting Tool Market Report (CTMR) collaboration, was up 5.6% from April’s $203.68 million and up 12.1% when compared with the $191.93 million reported for May 2017. With a year-to-date total of $999.82 million, 2018 is up 10.1% when compared with 2017. Totals represent the majority of the U.S. market for cutting tools.

摘要:US machine shops are potentially underutilizing the machinability of brass by as much as 85 percent in their part processing operations, reports a recent study from the Copper Development Association Inc. (McLean, VA). The research shows that machine shops can and should be machining the material at significantly faster feeds and speeds – often five to 20 times faster – than they currently do to increase productivity and profitability.Today’s brass rod materials, for instance, not only machine easier and faster, they do so without having a negative impact on tool wear, part surface finishes, or chip formation. With the power and rigidity of the latest high-speed machine tools, shops have the capability to boost brass workpiece material removal rates in their milling, drilling, and turning operations. Also, according to the study, alternative materials such as steel and stainless-steel lack the competitive high-speed machining advantages derived from brass.

摘要:In this paper, a literature survey conducted to study the state of the art research and pinpoint the future agenda of research on leagile manufacturing is reported. The information and knowledge derived by conducting this literature survey have indicated that the researchers have been enunciating the determination of a juncture which is called the decoupling point to determine the proportion of lean and agile manufacturing implementation in the concerned traditional manufacturing companies. These researchers have also found that supply chain management plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of leagile manufacturing paradigm. The ultimate results of conducting this literature survey revealed that efforts are yet to be made for measuring the process of achieving leagility through supply chains. At this moment, researchers are required to contribute a model for measuring the performance of leagile supply chains. In this context, this paper ends with suggesting the steps to be followed for developing leagile supply chain measurement model. Such model will be useful for the engineers and managers for strengthening the weak spots to successfully implement leagile manufacturing paradigm in traditional manufacturing companies and acquire competitive strength.

There are specific business applications and specific business reasons for why we’re making the investments we’re making,” Dan Grieshaber, Director of General Motor’s Manufacturing Engineering Integration, said at a recent media program at the Lansing Delta Township assembly plant in Michigan.

One of the recent investments at the 3.6 million  ft3 facility is a dedicated area for the 3D printing of parts via the largest 3D printer (bed and print size) among GM’s 18 North American assembly plants.

Over the past two years, 3D printed parts produced at the plant have netted approximately $300,000 in savings versus vendor-supplied parts. It’s possible to design a 3D-part in three hours and produce it in a solid shape within three days, according to Zane Meike, additive manufacturing plant lead.

We’ve done many parts for many different applications, including production aids, ergo tools for operators, and prototypes,” said Meike. referencing the 3D printed parts made from various powders, including carbon fiber-infused nylon.

标题:The Effect of the Cell Shape on Compressive Mechanical Behavior of 3D Printed Extruded Cross-sections

简介Additive manufacturing has been a promising technique for producing sophisticated porous structures. The pore's architecture and infill density percentage can be easily controlled through additive manufacturing methods. This paper reports on development of sandwich-shape extruded cross sections with various architecture. These lightweight structures were prepared by employing additive manufacturing technology. In this study, three types of cross-sections with the same 2-D porosity were generated using particular techniques. a) The regular cross section of hexagonal honeycomb, b) the heterogeneous pore distribution of closed cell aluminum foam cross section obtained from image processing and c) linearly patterned topology optimized 2-D unit cell under compressive loading condition. The optimized unit cell morphology is obtained by using popular two-dimensional topology optimization code known as 99-line code, and by having the same volume fraction as the heterogeneous foam. The upper edge of the unit cell was under distributed uniform loading, and the lower edge was fixed. All the cross sections have the same cavity to wall area ratio on their 2-D configuration. The samples are extruded to produce 3-D CAD model of sandwich shape porous structures. The different samples are tested with universal compression machine and mechanical characteristics of the models are investigated. Furthermore, the energy absorption efficiency and load bearing capability of samples are studied. The results of the experimental procedure are compared to numerical simulations under quasi-static condition.
