标题:ENHANCING THE AGILITY AND PERFORMANCES OF A PROJECT WITH LEAN MANUFACTURING PRACTICES

简介:This study presents the case study on implementation of Lean Kanban manufacturing principles into the existing Agile software development methodology. The aim of this study was to introduce the adjusted Lean principles which were seen as adequate for enhancing project agility (flexibility and adaptability) and to test if these changes consequently result in improved project team performances. In order to investigate possible effects of Lean approach on improved project agility (flexibility and capacity to adapt to changes), data from interviews, daily team meetings and sprint retrospective were examined. Furthermore, team velocity, defects rates and rework rate data were used for comparison of current Agile methodology success and proposed Lean Agile method. Results show that by adding adequate Lean Kanban principles based on needs of project and team, development process was improved. Defect rate notable decreased while velocity increased, mostly caused by Lean practices enabling more realistic effort estimation and optimized work flow. Moreover, team reported that improved visual management tools facilitated communication and made it more transparent, enabling better and faster problem solving and task management.

标题:Collision Avoidance System for Collaborative Robotics

简介:In this paper a real-time collision avoidance algorithm, based on the method of artificial potentials an intended for collaborative robotics applications was studied. Within this work, the movements of a person are detected and acquired by a vision system and a dummy, developed to interact with a robot in a simulated workspace, replicates these actions. Ellipsoids are then defined to entirely include several parts of the dummy and the end-effector of the robot. The minimum distance between the ellipsoids of the dummy and the one of the end-effector is the input of the collision avoidance algorithm. The results of tests are presented to show the effectiveness of the algorithm. Finally, the influence of the velocity of the obstacle on the capability of the algorithm of ensuring safe collision avoidance is analyzed.

标题:Robot adaptation to human physical fatigue in human–robot co-manipulation

简介:In this paper, we propose a novel method for human–robot collaboration, where the robot physical behaviour is adapted online to the human motor fatigue. The robot starts as a follower and imitates the human. As the collaborative task is performed under the human lead, the robot gradually learns the parameters and trajectories related to the task execution. In the meantime, the robot monitors the human fatigue during the task production. When a predefined level of fatigue is indicated, the robot uses the learnt skill to take over physically demanding aspects of the task and lets the human recover some of the strength. The human remains present to perform aspects of collaborative task that the robot cannot fully take over and maintains the overall supervision. The robot adaptation system is based on the Dynamical Movement Primitives, Locally Weighted Regression and Adaptive Frequency Oscillators. The estimation of the human motor fatigue is carried out using a proposed online model, which is based on the human muscle activity measured by the electromyography. We demonstrate the proposed approach with experiments on real-world co-manipulation tasks: material sawing and surface polishing.

标题:Sensorless and adaptive admittance control of industrial robot in physical human-robot interaction

简介:As industrial robots are applied in manufacturing industry on a large-scale and human intelligence is regarded as an important part in manufacturing, physical human-robot interaction (pHRI) which integrates the strength and accuracy of robot with human operator's ability of task cognition has drawn the attention of both academia and industry. However, an industrial robot without extra force/torque sensor for interacting force monitoring cannot be used directly in pHRI, and research on pHRI of industrial robots remains a challenge. In this research, a comprehensive dynamic model of an industrial robot in both dynamic mode and quasi-static mode is obtained to calculate the external force produced by human operator in pHRI and enables sensorless pHRI for industrial robots even in the environment with ambient vibration. Particularly, the dynamics in the process of mode switching which has not been investigated by researchers is studied and compensated by an empirical but effective method. Admittance control is used to transfer the detected force into reference position and velocity of the robot. RBF (Radial Basis Function) network is used to update the damping parameter online in order to reduce the contact force change and the contact force which makes pHRI more natural and easier. The stability of the controller is also discussed. The proposed methods of external force detection and adaptive admittance control show satisfactory behaviour in the experiments.

简介CNC machine manufacturer Okuma has just unveiled their new foray into additive manufacturing. The hybrid 3D printer CNC machine mixes the processes of both devices for a high accuracy object. The Laser EX multi-tasking MU-8000V uses Laser Metal Deposition as an additive method of object building and can use multiple materials. Diabase also used the concept of a hybrid 3D printer CNC machine for their H-series devices. Much like the H-series, the MU-8000V uses successive printing and machining steps to create and trim objects in alternating stages. However, Diabase were working with something similar to FFF while the MU-8000V uses laser methods. Through using LMD instead of other methods, it allows the printer to process existing items for repair or cladding. The hybrid machine allows for part inspection and repairs during production. The boosted efficiency and resolution are thanks to an infinitely variable control of laser spot diameters (0.4 to 8.5 mm). By using LMD instead of other methods, the MU-8000V Laser EX offers mid-process part inspection and material exchange, along with coolant implementation in the work envelope and an faster process.

标题:Researchers Create Ice-based Nano Scale Metal Print Method

简介There are quite a few fringe forms of additive manufacturing that often take the science world by surprise. Chinese researchers recently found one by making metal-based nano scale structures using plain, old frozen water as a photoresist material. The scientists have shown of a range of shapes they can make with the metals including tiny bridges and pyramids. While the ice is traditional water, the scientists created it at very low temperatures (minus 130 °C). At temperatures that low, a very thin layer of condensed water vapour turns into thin smoothe solids. Traditionally the electron beam lithography uses a electron-sensitive “resist” material to draw on the surfaces of the resist by immersing it in a developer. Using an electron beam, scientists can change the solubility of the resist material drawing custom patterns with it. This allows the process to write on structures on a sub-10 nano meter resolution on metals. Here, however, the researchers found a way to replace the resist with ice. Scientists call that particular state, amorphous ice. “We later discovered that this happens to be the climatic environment of the comet, and the ice on the comet is also in this amorphous state,” Professor Qiu Wei said.
