简介:Industrialization throughout history has been one of the main contributors to pollution, disregard for environmental issues, resulting in an unsustainable production model. A change from this context, the imminent new industry model called the Fourth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0, aims for a manufacturing system that is both viable and sustainable. This paper seeks to describe the main forms of collaboration of Industry 4.0 in relation to sustainability. Scientific works point out the advantages provided by the new industry model such as improved product life cycles, manufacturing works in an integrated way with the use of cyber-physical systems allied to the principles of this industry, such as decentralization, virtualization, interoperability, among others which lead to more adaptability to natural resources availability and environmental costs. Smaller batches can lead to a more accurate response to the demand curves and consequently lessen the waste for production.

简介:A revolution in manufacturing systems is underway: substantial recent investment has been directed towards the development of smart manufacturing systems that are able to respond in real time to changes in customer demands, as well as the conditions in the supply chain and in the factory itself. Smart manufacturing is a key component of the broader thrust towards Industry 4.0, and relies on the creation of a bridge between digital and physical environments through Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, coupled with enhancements to those digital environments through greater use of cloud systems, data analytics and machine learning. Whilst these individual technologies have been in development for some time, their integration with industrial systems leads to new challenges as well as potential benefits. In this paper, we explore the challenges faced by those wishing to secure smart manufacturing systems. Lessons from history suggest that where an attempt has been made to retrofit security on systems for which the primary driver was the development of functionality, there are inevitable and costly breaches. Indeed, today's manufacturing systems have started to experience this over the past few years; however, the integration of complex smart manufacturing technologies massively increases the scope for attack from adversaries aiming at industrial espionage and sabotage. The potential outcome of these attacks ranges from economic damage and lost production, through injury and loss of life, to catastrophic nation-wide effects. In this paper, we discuss the security of existing industrial and manufacturing systems, existing vulnerabilities, potential future cyber-attacks, the weaknesses of existing measures, the levels of awareness and preparedness for future security challenges, and why security must play a key role underpinning the development of future smart manufacturing systems.

标题:Robot needle-punching path planning for complex surface preforms

摘要:The advent of three-dimensional (3D) needle-punched preforms has presented the composites community with some novel options in materials' selection. 3D flat fabrics and fully special shaped preforms have been trialed with considerable success for engineering applications. This paper presents the path planning method of a six joints needle-punching robot for producing high performance fiber preforms for advanced composites. The method has been developed and validated through robot needle-punching motion simulation and experiment on a complex surface preform. It has been demonstrated that the robot needle-punching path planning for complex surface preforms can be achieved. It is noteworthy that the presented robot needle-punching path planning method can easily be adjusted to different preforms with different shapes, dimensions and needling distribution. Moreover, the method can also be applied to robot tufting processes and composite z-pin process. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Europe’s truck manufacturers are willing to commit to ambitious CO2 targets, provided that these are realistic and in line with what is technologically possible and economically viable. In order to ensure that the CO2 targets under discussion are also deliverable in practice, ACEA believes that the new regulatory framework should strive to be cost-effective, reflect the diversity of the truck market, and enable innovation without imposing a technology choice.

摘要:Manufacturing technology orders capped the first half of the year with another strong month in June, gaining 5 percent compared to June 2017 and bringing the annual growth rate to 22 percent for 2018. The latest U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders Report from AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology showed that orders totaled $417 million for the month, down 14 percent compared to May’s totals, and sit at $2.55 billion for the year. “While many manufacturers are expressing concerns about trade wars, it doesn’t seem that it has slowed their need for additional capacity, and orders for new capital equipment remain strong,“ said AMT President Doug Woods. “Trade issues and supply chain delays are certain to have an impact on the equipment market as we head into the fall. AMT supports a quick and fair conclusion to the issues with our trading partners as exports are important to all manufacturers, and in the case of our members, represent more than a third of their annual output.”

The gap increased 9.5% to $50.1 billion, the biggest since February, from a revised $45.7 billion in the prior month, Commerce Department data showed on September 5.

Exports fell 1%, driven by steep drops in shipments of aircraft and soybeans, while imports rose 0.9 % in a broad-based gain.
