简介:Vision-guided robots, from industrial robotic arms to autonomous mobile robots, are a quickly growing segment of robotics. Typically, robots equipped with advanced vision systems are far more capable and flexible than robots that operate “blind”. According to a report from Technavio, the market for vision-guided robots is expected to reach a value of $5.90 Billion by 2021, up from $3.40 Billion in 2016. During that time period, the market is expected to grow at a 12% compound annual growth rate (CAGR). The logistics segment will be one of the largest buyers of vision-guided robots, as demand for automatic and autonomous mobile robots in the warehouse grows.

标题:Fuzzy Logic Based Path Planning for Industrial Robot

简介:This article describes how industrial robots are generally used to perform different tasks in industries, such as pick and place, and many more operations in industries. Among these, pick and place is a very common and frequently used task. Path planning is the most important thing in order to make any process more economical. The main focus of the research is to design a fuzzy control system for path planning for industrial robots using artificial intelligence using fuzzy logic. For the analysis, ten different tasks are tested. For fuzzy logic systems, three membership functions are analyzed and compared to find the best result. From the research, it has been found that a Gaussian membership function gives more accurate result in comparison to the other two membership functions.

简介:A new flexible punching system based on industrial robots is proposed for tailor-made automotive panel. A robot end effector for industrial robot punching - punching plier is designed. Meanwhile, according to the shape feature of the punching plier, the interactive tool path generation method is proposed in 2D space instead of 3D space. This system can be adjusted easily to punch all kinds of holes, reducing the cost of developing new cars and shortening the development cycle. Finally, the practicability of this system is verified through application in real production of automotive panels.

The devices enabled more than 11 million passenger vehicles to meet U.S. emissions standards in the laboratory despite producing emissions up to 40 times higher than the legal limit in real-world driving conditions.

标题:Improvement in impact strength of composite joints for the automotive industry

简介:The use of composite structures in the automotive industry aims to produce vehicles able to meet both fuel economy and safety standards. This work focused on the improvement of static and impact strength of composite adhesive joints, avoiding early delamination of the composite. The techniques applied are mixed adhesive combinations (use of two adhesives in one overlap) and the use of crash resistant adhesives. Experimental results demonstrated that a crash resistant adhesive provides the best mechanical performance under quasi-static and impact loads. A mixed adhesive configuration provided good results and improvements over single adhesives.

标题:Country- and manufacturer-level attribution of air quality impacts due to excess NOx emissions from diesel passenger vehicles in Europe

摘要:Multi-element reference materials (ME-RMs) mimicking atmospheric aerosol composition were generated using certified multi-element solutions on PTFE filters for use in calibration and quality checks of x-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis. The ME-RMs reference loadings were assigned using an approach based on two assumptions: the accuracy of potassium (K) measured by energy-dispersive XRF (EDXRF) analysis at the University of CaliforniaDavis, and no change in the chemical profile of multi-element solutions when deposited on PTFE filters. A subset of ME-RMs was analyzed by EDXRF and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to check the
agreement between the two methods and the reference loadings. Several statistical metrics revealed good agreements for Na, Al, Si, S, K, Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Se, As, and Pb. Selected ME-RMs were tested for short-and long-term stability and homogeneity of deposit; they were shown to be homogeneously deposited and, except for Cl and Br, stable when handled and stored properly. The generated ME-RMs have the potential to fill a gap in the currently available XRF quality assurance resources by providing known element loadings in the range of interest for atmospheric aerosol measurements.

标题:Developing the Digital Manufacturing Commons: A National Initiative for US Manufacturing Innovation

摘要:The manufacturing sector is at the core of the American economy. With American leadership in advanced manufacturing at risk due to changes in the global economy and new competitors rising across the globe, the U.S. President announced an investment of $1 billion in a National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). The key focus is on new technology paradigms that can improve the competitiveness of American manufacturing – with a focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) – through digitization of design and manufacturing, democratization of technology, and collaborative design and analytics to sustain leadership across the U.S. manufacturing ecosystem. Funded through the newly established Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute and supported through a Cooperative Agreement with the Department of Defense, the Digital Manufacturing Commons (DMC) is an open-source platform based on previous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and General Electric (GE) projects and built to democratize development and access to the tools for manufacturing innovation across small and large companies, universities, institutes, and entrepreneurs. The DMC will bring together one hundred thousand or more users, thousands of SMEs, large manufacturing companies, and universities to collaborate on manufacturing and to accelerate technologies that integrate the digital thread from design to manufacture and service. The initiative to build the DMC is led by GE Global Research Center. The DMC will be transitioned to the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute and made available to the U.S. manufacturing base to enable a digital revolution in manufacturing innovation.

It’s the first time he’s taken an outsider to the facility in Nashua, New Hampshire, just across the state line from Desktop Metal’s headquarters in Burlington, Massachusetts. They’ll be able to 3-D print 100 times faster than existing high-end 3-D printing systems used for aerospace, and at one-twentieth the cost, without the tooling required for traditional manufacturing processes. “It’s the first metal printing press,” says Fulop, an exuberant, heavyset man with a slight accent from his native Venezuela.

Nam Le, a student from California Polytechnic University and fan of retro video gaming was sick of hunting down replacement controllers every two months. To solve the problem himself he reverses engineered nearly 20-year-old components by hand and redesigned the entire joystick system from scratch. Bringing the new to the old, Nam used 3D printing and worked with 3D Hubs to create what could possibly be the world's most durable N64 controller.

摘要:The MGI is a strategic effort spanning multiple federal agencies to promote a globally competitive U.S. manufacturing sector by addressing important gaps in the Materials Innovation Infrastructure1 . Its aim is to enable U.S. companies to more rapidly and efficiently develop and deploy advanced materials, with applications ranging from consumer goods, to renewable energy generation and energy storage, to supercomputing and national defense. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is supporting the MGI through efforts to establish ? materials data-exchange and model-exchange protocols; ? the means to ensure the quality of materials data and models; and ? new methods, metrologies, and capabilities needed for accelerated materials development. Additionally, through its integration of these activities, NIST is working to test and disseminate elements of an improved Materials Innovation Infrastructure to stakeholders in other national laboratories, universities, and U.S. industry. This briefing provides key findings from economic analysis and interviews with more than 120 industry experts on their needs for new technological infrastructure supporting advanced materials innovation and the potential economic impacts of meeting those needs. We conclude that an improved Materials Innovation Infrastructure would deliver between $123 billion and $270 billion in value annually.

摘要:Selecting a landing site for a rover headed to Mars is a lengthy process that normally involves large committees of scientists and engineers. These committees typically spend several years weighing a mission’s science objectives against a vehicle’s engineering constraints, to identify sites that are both scientifically interesting and safe to land on.
For instance, a mission’s science team may want to explore certain geological sites for signs of water, life, and habitability. But engineers may find that those sites are too steep for a vehicle to land safely, or the locations may not receive enough sunlight to power the vehicle’s solar panels once it has landed. Finding a suitable landing site therefore involves piecing together information collected over the years by past Mars missions. These data, though growing with each mission, are patchy and incomplete.
