简介:Industry 4.0 has arisen from an advancement of information and data technology. Thus, data has becomes valuable knowledge that can be organized, managed, and utilized to enhance productivity performance and further innovation in order to gain more competitive advantages for organizations. Technologies—among others, big data techniques such as machine learning, data mining, crowdsourcing, and time-frequency analysis, etc.—have been invented to draw useful information that helps organizations gain valuable insights into past and current market behavior in order to predict its future needs and direction by producing innovative business models, projects, products, or services. Harnessing big data in the private and public sectors produces enormous benefits. The utilization of big data has been used to reduce production cost and working capital and to further increase productivity, improve quality, and generate more business revenues for both sectors. As a result, information is more usable and accessible for both service providers and customers, and therefore, resulting in value creation and competitive advantages. However, some challenges on managing data and information are existed, mainly regarding privacy protection and data security. Collecting, managing, and utilizing the data can be a problem if not performed with the proper mechanism and authorization. Data Protection, Privacy, & Security Competition around new business models should be designed to enable data utilization to enhance industrial applications that are beneficial for end users. Companies bear a high degree of responsibility, including data confidentiality protection. Data privacy breakdowns and the use of private information for inappropriate and harmful purposes can be destructive for business reputations. Blown away by digital world freedom, people have detailed their personal data, interests, even obsessions on social media platforms, generating a river of data that can be collected and harnessed for advertising or other means. We live in a world full of tangible and intangible data, where some people may gain benefits from others’ personal information with few constraints and almost no supervision. Furthermore, some individuals or organizations have taken advantage of social and digital platforms to deceive, mislead, or harm others by creating or disseminating fake news and disinformation. Thus, with such economic value, data is now too valuable to go unregulated. For example, the current scandal involving Cambridge Analytica exposes how we need a better data-protection system. Well aware of this situation, the European Union has exhibited a fast breakthrough response toward the rising threat of data misuse through the issuance of the General Data Protection Regulation that will enter into force next month. Businesses that neglect to consider and implement privacy requirements and data protection will be subject to enforcement actions. As a result, failure to comply with the regulation is subject to a fine up to either 4% of an organization’s global turnover or EUR 20 million for noncompliance. Furthermore, utilizing algorithms and crowdsourcing technologies, strengthening online accountability, and performing peer-to-peer review as well as improving public digital literacy can be optimized to mitigate data misuse and disinformation. The organizations must set up their own governance systems to ensure adherence of data protection toward the highest level of integrity and business ethics. Data privacy policies should be integrated into mainstream business; thus, all protected data must correctly be identified, handled, transmitted, and utilized.

简介:The following article presents a brief literature review conducted to extend our knowledge about how Industry 4.0 affects business models and to identify business model innovations derived in consequence. Based on the results, a set of features, issues and requirements have been identified and three different approaches has been suggested to make firms getting closer to the industry 4.0 phenomenon such as service orientation, networked ecosystems and customer orientation. Furthermore, the impacts on the creation, delivery, and capture of value through the reconfiguration of Business Models due to embracing the Industry 4.0 are depicted. As a result, four different ways to innovate the business models based on different degrees of innovation are proposed to embrace the digitalization. Those paths goes from optimizing internal and external processes or improving customer relationship to creating new value networks or smart products and services through disruptive business models.

Intelligent manufacturing plays an important role in Industry 4.0. Typical resources are convertedinto intelligent objects so that they are able to sense, act, and behave within a smart environment.In order to fully understand intelligent manufacturing in the context of Industry 4.0, this paper providesa comprehensive review of associated topics such as intelligent manufacturing, Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled manufacturing, and cloud manufacturing. Similarities and differences in these topics are highlightedbased on our analysis. We also review key technologies such as the IoT, cyber-physical systems (CPSs), cloudcomputing, big data analytics (BDA), and information and communications technology (ICT) that are usedto enable intelligent manufacturing. Next, we describe worldwide movements in intelligent manufacturing,including governmental strategic plans from different countries and strategic plans from major internationalcompanies in the European Union, United States, Japan, and China. Finally, we present current challengesand future research directions. The concepts discussed in this paper will spark new ideas in the effort torealize the much-anticipated Fourth Industrial Revolution.

简介:The term ‘Industry 4.0’ was coined to mark the fourth industrial revolution, a new paradigm enabled by the introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) into the production and manufacturing environment. The vision of Industry 4.0 emphasizes the global networks of machines in a smart factory setting capable of autonomously exchanging information and controlling each other. This cyber-physical system allows the smart factory to operate autonomously. For instance, a machine will know the manufacturing process that needs to be applied to a product, what variation to be made to that product etc., so that the product can be uniquely identifiable as an active entity whose configuration and route in the production line is unique. As the collaboration between suppliers, manufacturers and customers is crucial to increase the transparency of all the steps from when the order is dispatched until the end of the life cycle of the product, it is therefore necessary to analyze the impact of Industry 4.0 on the supply chain as a whole.

It is widely recognised in industry that potential shortages and gaps in skills development, combined with mismatches between labour supply and demand, directly harm job creation. The Fourth Industrial Revolution brings major disruption to the scale at which upskilling and reskilling efforts currently take place, and is therefore likely to widen these potential gaps. Moreover, it is likely that advanced economies characterised by large consumer markets, such as the European Union (EU), will be confronted with the highest skills mismatches.

标题:A New Buffer in Impact Reduction for Aerospace Applications

简介:Abstract The aim of this paper is to introduce a new buffering mechanism in impact reduction during assembly process of two space vehicles. Probe-cone mechanism, due to its computational easiness, is employed to study impact interaction between multibody systems. The proposed buffer with a compact structure includes a probe equipped with axial and torsional flexibilities during impact condition. Since all constraints in the problem are holonomic, the unconstrained form of Lagrangian approach will be used to derive the system’s equations of motion. The Lankarani-Nikravesh contact force model, because of its advantages in multibody systems, is applied to investigate dynamic behavior of vehicles during impact-contact event. A key factor in capture process of two vehicles is to determine the proper parameters of buffer. To do this, a strategy will be introduced to evaluate the coefficients of buffer. First, the theoretical model is solved and the obtained results are verified by those recently reported for special case related to impact analysis of two space vehicles carrying flexible probe. Second, the entire capture process will be built in MATLAB/Simulink’s SimMechanics multibody software to ascertain the correctness of theoretical model. Then, a simple ground-based experimental setup will be established to only prove the effectiveness of the proposed capturing system. The obtained results indicate that the proposed buffer leads to considerably reduce the peak value of impact force, to remarkably increase total contact time and to successfully perform capture process.

标题:Hybrid sequential fault estimation for multi-mode diagnosis of gas turbine engines

简介:Health condition monitoring of Gas Turbine Engine (GTE) components is key for predictive maintenance planning. The task is challenging, as the gas-path components are mostly inaccessible for direct measurements, while at the same time hidden incipient faults must be diagnosed using the available measurements. The presence of multiple faults with similar symptoms adds to the complexity of the diagnostic process. In previous research work, a data-driven multi-mode fault parameter estimation scheme was introduced for real-time multimode diagnosis of GTEs under diverse operating conditions and fault scenarios. In this work, a hybrid diagnostic framework is developed that fuses the results from a measurement-based fault parameter estimation strategy together with a fault propagation model. The hybrid framework uses a novel particle filter (PF) structure with redundant measurements that facilitates updating the particle weights while reducing the dimensionality of the measurement likelihood. Applying the developed framework on GTE gas-path data with four different gradually worsening faults, the results show the diagnostic accuracy increases up to ten times, compared to the previously developed fault parameter estimation scheme.
