标题:The impact of the fourth industrial revolution: a cross-country/region comparison

简介:The fourth industrial revolution stimulates the advances of science and technology, in which the Internet of Things (IoT) and its supporting technologies serve as backbones for Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and smart machines are used as the promoters to optimize production chains. Such advancement goes beyond the organizational and territorial boundaries, comprising agility, intelligence, and networking. This scenario triggers governmental efforts that aim at defining guidelines and standards. The speed and complexity of the transition to the new digitalization era in a globalized environment, however, does not yet allow a common and coordinated understanding of the impacts of the actions undertaken in different countries and regions. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to bridge this gap through a systematic literature review that identifies the most influential public policies and evaluates their existing differences. This cross-country/region comparison provides a worldwide panorama of public policies' durations, main objectives, available funding, areas for action, focused manufacturing sectors, and prioritized technologies. Findings of this review can be used as the basis to analyse the position of a country against the existing challenges imposed towards its own industrial infrastructure and also to coordinate its public policies.

标题:Fully Integrated Torque-Based Collision Detection in Periodic Tasks for Industrial Robots with Closed Control Architecture

简介:This paper presents an implementation and experimental validation of an algorithm for collision detection for industrial robots performing repetitive tasks. Collisions are detected by using two decision rules, one of which compares current-based estimated torques with previously calculated reference limits, while the second rule detects changes in torque dynamics. Reference limits represent experimentally acquired torque values processed in order to determine measurement tolerances based on dynamics of the signal, as well as to adapt to different sampling times. The main contribution of the paper is the algorithm which is entirely implemented on robot's controller with closed control architecture, and only requires PC for initial offline processing of reference torques. It can be adapted for use on various brands of industrial robots, and it is universal to different robot configurations.

标题:The Case of Industrial Robotics in Croatia

简介:This paper presents an analysis of the number and the distribution of industrial robots in the Republic of Croatia. Also, the actual state of industrial robotics in the world is given, with the present and future growth trends, the distribution of robots by countries and manufacturing sectors. The number of robots in Croatia was obtained on the basis of a survey questionnaire sent to 1,500 Croatian companies. Regarding the question of robot ownership, 72 companies answered positively, resulting in a total of 326 active industrial robots in 2017. According to the Croatian Chamber of Economy estimates, the Croatian economy should have at least 2,000 installed robots. The paper gives a prediction for the growth trend in order to achieve 2,000 robots in a reasonable time period (by 2026). For that case, an exponential growth rate of 25.4% is required. Based on the current state of the Croatian economy, such an exponential growth is a huge challenge for the near future. The paper gives a brief critical review of the current state of industrial robotics in Croatia and provides guidelines for stimulating the application of industrial robots in the near future.

简介:Passenger car bodies made nowadays are most often self-bearing constructions. This is the reason why a change in the parameters of a car body during its use also affects other sets of component parts, which are attached to it. While a passenger car is driven, the car body is exposed to various factors which can cause sudden damage or gradual wear of the car’s technical condition. This paper contains an analysis of the influence of changes in the geometry of a car body on changes in the geometry of wheels. The study was carried out on C-segment cars produced by the same manufacturer. While making an assessment of the car body’s geometry, the location of base points on the floor pan and the upper parts of the car bodywork, within the motor chamber, etc. was assayed. All vehicles were constructed on the same floor pan. Measurements were performed with a Gysmeter made by the company Gys and supported by Autorobot Datasheet software, while the geometry of wheels was measured with a computerised laser device Autoboss A-860. Camber, castor and steering axis inclination were some of the wheel geometry parameters measured in our study.

简介:Additive manufacturing (AM), according to the official ASTM definition, is the "process of joining materials to make parts from 3D model data, usually layer upon layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing and formative manufacturing methodologies" [1]. The process is known under a variety of names, such as e-manufacturing, freeform fabrication, rapid manufacturing, etc., the most popular one being "3D printing". Although in some contexts they can carry slightly different meanings, in most cases these names can all be considered synonyms. Since its inception in the 1980's, AM has gained increasing consideration first and foremost for rapid prototyping. Over the past 20 years, the introduction of affordable commercial 3D printers - mainly for plastics - has helped the diffusion of this technology and the awareness of its potential: AM is extremely agile and adaptable, potentially offering major advantages for the production of single parts or small batches, especially for complex and/or highly customized ones. As a result, a rapidly increasing number of industries are considering or already adopting AM as part of their processes, both in R&D and in production. Most notably, many biomedical, dental, aerospace, automotive, and consumer electronics products include parts manufactured via AM, driven by the need for mass customization, higher efficiency of the supply chain, and quicker response times [2]. A perspective of the current and expected progress of the adoption of AM by the industry is given in figure 1 through Gartner's hype cycle representation. Here, some selected key steps of such progress are highlighted. The general observation is that, while 3D printing for prototyping is now widely adopted in various industrial contexts [3] and the market of AM services is gaining momentum toward the so-called "plateaux of productivity", almost all other contexts of application for AM are still at earlier stages of maturity.

The methodology is thoroughly described, both in qualitative and quantitative terms, in support to the mission analysis trade-off activities. The baseline solution is presented with evidence to support the orbit design.

简介:Researchers have been doing a lot with 3D printing magnetic materials. We’ve previously seen magnetic bio-mimicry, medical robots and now mesh robots. A team at North Carolina State University developed these mesh robots by printing silicone architectures with programmable magnetic capillary action. As a result, they’ve developed smart elastomeric structures that reconfigure and reshape in reaction to magnetic fields. The robots can thus pick things up or partake in small actions that could be useful in developing soft robotics or medical tools.

While the robots are best for simpler tasks, they are just an early prototype, as the researchers suggest. “This research shows capabilities in the emerging field of combining 3D printing and soft robotics,” says Orlin Velev, corresponding author of the study. “For now, this is an early stage proof-of-concept for a soft robotic actuator.”

The ultrasoft actuators deform upon interaction with magnetic forces, causing carbonyl iron particles inside them to release or contort. One of the proof of concepts that the researchers presented was a mechanism for holding water droplets. While the magnetic field is on the robot holds on to the droplets and releases the when the field switches off. The design could this be a great way of transporting liquids or mixing them in lab situations.
