【摘要】 Heating systems have been widely applied in a wide range of industries for generations. One of the most popular heating systems is the hot air blower system, which is used in this study. This paper outlines the development, and implementation of a Fuzzy Proportional Integral Derivative (FPID) controller with model reference in controlling the heating system. Simulation study was carried out on unit step input. The proposed controller's performance is evaluated against an FPID controller based on the simulation results. In terms of output responsiveness, the FPID controller with model reference operated on the Auto-Regressive with Exogenous Input (ARX223) model structure shows acceptable performances.

【摘要】 Impeller design in turbomachines is one of the most challenging issues in these machines' systems, which still plays a significant role in their efficiency and performance. This article considers different designs for splitter blades. Therefore, the CFD methods modify the position of the splitter blades leading edge at the hub and shroud. This modification shall lead to a different splitter blade profile from the main blades. Then, the effects of splitter blades are discussed, and the performance parameters have also been studied to improve this method's implementation. The results revealed that the compressor's efficiency was improved by approximately 1.5% in one specific case. This finding proves that the previous design methods were not the optimum ones for compressors and how to increase the compressor's efficiency by CFD methods and by changing the splitter blades' location.

【摘要】 Vapor compression heat pump dryers (HPDs) are widely applied in food and industrial drying. Many efforts have been devoted to evaluating the HPD performance from the perspectives of energy, exergy, economy, etc. The current work offers a perspective of both energy efficiency and operational robustness to evaluate HPDs, intending to measure their design and off-design performance for various drying applications. Based on the proposed method, a case study on conveyor seaweed drying is presented. The preferable system(s) are found out among three candidates in general use, i.e., the basic heat pump dryer HPD_(basic), the HPD with air bypass HPD_(bypass), and the HPD with air bypass and subcooler HPD_(subcooler). The results show that, HPD_(basic) is not applicable for seaweed drying due to the required huge circulating air flow rate. HPD_(bypass) and HPD_(subcooler) are more preferred with better energy performance and operational robustness. Moisture extraction rate (MER) of 30.4 kg/h and specific moisture extraction rate (SMER) of 2.20 kg/kWh are reached in HPD_(bypass) at the design condition (T_(db) = 45℃, RH = 0.4), and are further increased to 35.8 kg/h and 2.58 kg/kWh in HPD_(subcooler). Meanwhile the off-design robustness indices are 0.14 and 0.22 for HPD_(bypass) and HPD_(subcooler), and can be enlarged to 0.19 and 0.33 after reselecting a compressor withstanding condensing temperature up to 58℃ (2℃ higher). Besides, HPD_(bypass) and HPD_(subcooler) can bear at least 30% air leakage in operation. Finally, operational robustness on other applications is also discussed for conveyor and batch dryers.

【摘要】 This issue of Four Wheeler contains a fun story about the 2022 Centerforce Adventure Run, which is a multi-day off-road foray into the Arizona backcountry for 4x4s with manual transmissions (mostly). I think it's safe to say that manual transmissions have played a big part in our wheeling past whether we drive a manual-equipped 4x4 now or not. My history with a manual gearbox began when the young me learned how to clutch and row gears in an old six-cylinder-powered Ford F-250 farm truck. Even though the shifter travel was super long and sloppy, and the clutch feel was funky, I eventually figured it out. The young me was surprised that it took a bit of learning. I guess I figured it would be easy after riding motorcycles since a young age, you know, manual shift there, too, but it was surprisingly different. After learning on the F-250, I found myself piloting manual gearbox-equipped vehicles like a '76 AMC Pacer (don't judge me), '77 Toyota Corolla SR5, '77 Datsun 280Z, '77 Pontiac Trans Am, '84 Jeep Cherokee XJ, and '90 Geo Tracker among others. To me, driving a manual-shift vehicle just made sense. I liked the simplicity compared to an automatic transmission and the manual-equipped vehicles were almost always less expensive than the automatic-equipped machines. In late 1996, I bought a brand-new '97 Jeep Wrangler Sport with a five-speed manual. That Jeep was my daily as well as my trail rig and I never regretted getting the manual.
