【摘要】 Instruments within the materials characterization category measure physical properties of samples ranging from particle size and hardness to flow properties and thermal responses. They are often used in QC applications of products as varied as pharmaceuticals and steel. Cautious spending prompted by an inflationary market and an unstable economic environment contributed to a 1.8% growth for these technologies in 2023. Despite a successful recovery in 2022, the industrial sector experienced a slowdown in 2023, with sales stabilizing and companies adopting a more conservative approach to spending. Additionally, the chemicals market softened in the latter half of the year. But the advanced material market remained resilient driving growth for materials characterization. This trend is anticipated to continue in 2024 with an estimated 2.6% growth forecasted in demand for materials characterization techniques.

【摘要】 According to the standard of knee joint movement and actual working conditions, the complex movement of knee joint can be decomposed into three movement modes: sliding, swinging and twisting. The friction and wear mechanism of PEEK and PEEK/ZnO composites in sliding, swinging and twisting modes was studied on knee joint simulator. The result shows that the friction coefficient and wear of the PEEK/ZnO composite are lower than those of PEEK, and the addition of ZnO can effectively improve the wear resistance of the PEEK composite. The relevant data has deepened people's understanding of the tribological behavior and wear mechanism of artificial knee joints.

【摘要】 The paper presents basic information on the production, structure and tribological properties of a composite chromium-ceramic coating deposited electrolytically on a cast-iron piston ring for a combustion engine designed for sliding against a composite cylinder liner. The results of comparative tests of two contacts, i.e. cast-iron GJL-250/AlMC and GJL250+Cr-Al_2O_3/AlMC, are described. The deposition of the Cr-Al_2O_3 coating on the cast-iron piston ring reduces almost trifold the wear of the piston ring and about 20% the friction resistance in the contact due to the presence of aluminium oxide particles and fibres. The reinforcing phase removed from the chromium layer polishes the chromium and composite sliding surfaces. The places left by the removed particles serve as depots for oil, which reduces the friction forces and minimises oil consumption. The Al_2O_3 wear debris decreases the roughness of the surfaces in contact, which additionally reduces the friction forces according to the friction hypothesis of Ernst and Merchant.
